Posture
Posture Matters
- Proper posture is when you stand with your ears aligned with your shoulders and your hips
- For every inch your head is forward, an additional 10lb. force is applied to your neck. Therefore, a person with a 2-inch forward head has an extra 20lb. of force on their neck every time they’re just standing without lifting anything. This place is incredibly force on your neck, causing neck pain and sometimes headaches.
- In 2025, Kevin Muldowney, PT, performed 44 of his five-hour evaluation and treatment sessions.
-The average forward head posture among these 44 patients was 2 inches. This was measured from the acromion to the external auditory meatus. - After all 44 of his five-hour evaluation and treatment sessions. All 44 patients achieved a neutral forward head position measuring 0 inches. This means their acromion was aligned with their external auditory meatus in a resting posture. (not trying to stand up straight).
Here are some percentages of where their forward head was coming from.
- 41.5% was coming from the lower back
- 18.58% was coming from shoulder instability
- 18.18% was coming from misalignment of T12-T1 in the ribs.
- 12.7% was coming from cervical alignment issues
- 5.54% was coming from foot and knee issues.
- 3.1% was coming from neck muscle tightness.
Coming to a five-hour evaluation treatment session will allow Kevin to look at the whole picture and truly understand how to correct your posture because he did it during the five-hour evaluation treatment session.
